According to Top Visually, Gas cars are said to produce around 160 tons of CO2 a year versus electric cars that only produce 15 tons of CO2. This means that if we were to switch to electric cars we would be producing much less Carbon Dioxide therefore helping reduce illnesses caused by air pollution and also to maintain the ozone layer. Another toxic part of the gas car is its battery. Since its battery is made from acid it is not safe to dispose of in just any type of way. On the other hand, electric cars batteries are usually made from lithium or are nickel based which is much more environmentally safe to expose. Lastly, gas cars have many different types of hazardous liquids that are harmful to the environment like motor oil, coolant and transmission fluid. Electric cars only windshield wiper fluid and brake fluid therefore it is much safer. Antony Ingram says “Nissan is trying to avoid using a coolant fluid with the batteries on the Leaf, because it reduces costs. Others, like Tesla, use cooling and thermal management to ensure the pack stays in its optimum operating range that is beneficial for performance, longevity and …show more content…

According to Top Visually, an electric charge only costs $1.41 per gallon versus $3.50 per gallon with a gas car. That is approximately 2 cents per mile with an electric car and 12 cents with a gas car. It may not seem like that much of a difference but when it means saving thousands of dollars a year on gas, the money will be noticeable. According to Stephen Edelstein, if someone were to drive 15,000 miles a year with a gas car, an annual fuel cost would be $2,135. However, with an estimated average electricity rate of 12 cents per kWh, an electric cars annual energy cost would only be $540. This means that just alone switching to an electric car will save driver’s $1,595 a year. Another way that you can save money with an electric car is through maintenance. Since electric cars do not have as many fluids that need to be replaced, repairs tend to cost less. Electric cars even have an 8-year warranty for the battery which means it will most likely not have to be replaced. Brake pads also tend to wear out less fast compared to gas car brake
