This book, “Gender Images in Public Administration,” by Camilla Stivers, is interesting to me because as a public administration student planning to go into the workforce of Non-profit organization or private cooperation feels that gender plays a big role in how an organization or a company succeed. This book, "Gender Images In Public Administration,” examines how widely-held ideas about masculinity and femininity shapes the current images of the American public administrator in the field. The author starts off by providing the thesis which states, “This book is that image of professional expertise management, leadership, and public virtue that mark justification of administration power contain dilemmas of gender,” (Stivers, 3). The book went further to explain that women are “Quintessentially ‘on tap’ but still rarely ‘on top,” (Stivers, 15). This demonstrates that there are still glass ceiling still occurring in the world of public administration, even though it might not seem like it. The book points out that the only federal agency that employed women was the U.S patent office, according to, Stephen B. Oates, (1994). But, as time went on the federal government started employing women into the federal agency. The only reason why women was invading the male world of government, according to this book, “Gender Images in Public Administration,” is that federal officers needed cheap labor and middle-class women to work for them. According to the book, the government did this, not because they want diversity, but due to the fact that they feel that men are demanding higher money regarding to the work that they are doing. The book expands that not only are women getting paid in low amounts, it shows that women are also sexual harassed in the work place. As a Public administration student, I need to have experience from the women’s perspective in order to succeed. We talked in class that public administration have roll regarding policies, such as, distributor, redistributive, regulatory, or privatization. For a public administration worker or someone planning to go into that field are going to encounter different problems that can not be solved by one specific group. Public administration workers need to get solution from different prospect in the society in order to be successful in the problems that we face. According to “Livescience.com,” it shows that men’s brain are wired differently than that of a women, which is not a bad thing. It shows that by working together we can achieve
