General George S. Patton was the epitome of tough and rugged when it came to being a soldier, during World War 2. His early life was one of strength and intelligence do to joining the Virginia Military Institute and West Point. General Patton was a big tank enthusiast using them primarily in his strategies. He lead many of the battles in Europe, with much success. His short temper was a major detract from his relationship to his men. General Patton was a true war hero of World War 2. During the first World War, “Patton saw them, tanks, as the as the future of modern warfare” (unknown) do to their armor and firepower and established himself as one of the leading experts in tank warfare. He also became the first commander of the army tanks corps during WWI “promoted through the ranks over the next several decades”(history.com staff). When WWII came around, Patton pleaded for Congress to permit for the creation of tanks and was thus given full command of the the 7th tank battalion. While he was in WWI, he would crawl for miles, at night, behind enemy lines to make sure his tanks could role there by morning. In his campaign on Sicily, Patton had turned the tide “the general managed to put U.S. forces back on the offensive after a series of defeats and win the war’s first major American victory against Nazi-led forces in the Battle of El Guettar in March 1943”(History.com staff 3). Patton had been given the command over D-Day do to his ferocious fighting style and to distract the Axis from a phantom strike further up north.
