The Company: General Mills is at the forefront for manufacturing packaged consumer foods. Some of their products include breakfast cereals, snacks, flour, and different prepared mixes. They are one of the largest manufacturer’s in the world for food-service. The main office for General Mills is in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Brief History: In the 1860s, General Mills started two flour mills which began the revolution in the milling industry. In 1928, they acquired the Washburn Crosby Company and four other milling companies. They grew as a food processor through the years of the Great Depression. They recently acquired Yoki Alimentos which is a leading branded food company. Yoki will double General Mills’ sales in Latin America.

China Growth: China is in the lead in terms of international growth for the company. It is driven by Häagen-Dazs, Wanchai Ferry, and Bugles and Trix wholesome snacks.

By 2020, the number of middle-class families across China is expected to double to 200 million households. This creates a big market for potential consumers of General Mills products. Today, Wanchai Ferry frozen dumplings are sold in more than 130 cities across Greater China with plans to enter new cities moving forward.

By 2015, General Mills plans to reach $900 million in sales for its businesses in China.

New Products in line: General Mills is trending with many new consumer-driven products. The company has 150 new products in line to be released in 2014.
