I’m here to explain a little bit about alcoholism. Many of you may think of alcohol abuse, but alcoholism is beyond that. Alcoholism is a disease that is determined mainly by genetics. Alcoholism consist of an actual dependency on the drug, rather than just a general use of the drug for recreational activities. Alcoholism is when you become so dependent on alcohol to the point where your body won’t function properly without it. A common problem that contributes to alcoholism is a thing called genetic predisposition. Genetic predisposition is when someone has a higher likelihood to get a disease due to their genetics. Someone who is born with a genetic predisposition has an increased likelihood to suffer from alcoholism whether it be from an addictive personality or another genetic issue. A way to work around this problem is to be educated. Being educated can really help someone know the risk that are out there and help them be aware of them, and also give them ways to cope with their mentality. Statistics show that 50% of addiction(general addiction) is determined by genetic predisposition. …show more content…

Statistics show that 50% of addiction(general addiction) is caused by poor coping skills (This is the other half of the statistics in the above paragraph). Poor coping skills can cause someone who may be depressed or frustrated to turn to alcohol(or another drug for that matter) to cope with their problems. However, the issue being that people can very easily slip into addiction by trying to use alcohol to relieve their pain. Some ways to deal with poor coping skills is to be educated and find out alternative ways to deal with stress and things of that
