Today, in the year 2018, the state of Pennsylvania holds over 12.8 million people; this number does not account for all those who previously resided in the state. In the history of Pennsylvania there are two individuals who stand out among others, Milton Hershey and St. Katharine Drexel. Although they were contemporaries of each other, growing up in the mid-19th century, they travelled in vastly different circles. Each achieved amazing accomplishments throughout their lives and contributed many key highlights to the history of Pennsylvania. This paper will compare and contrast the two to see the impact left behind by their lives.
The American Revolution started in 1775 and lasted until 1783. It was fought over American Independence from the British empire but in the end the colonists persevered and won. At first the British dominated winning many battles and starting the colonists off on a bad foot, with many casualties. The colonists were determined to succeed and soon they won their first battle, the battle of Charleston. Soon after they won other battles including, the battle of Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga.
Germantown. After the war Washington was very powerful and the most influential man in the American Colonies. It’s not out to the realm of thought to think Washington could have taken power of the new county, and its far to say that it would have been welcomed by the American people. But Washington did not want to go from one monarchy to another. He believed in the people should have a say in their government if they were going to be taxed.
On June 15, 1775, Washington was appointed Major General and Commander-in-Chief of colonial forces. Washington was the colonies’ best choice because he had experience, had been advising the congress, and the biggest factor that went into it was that if he had not been given the job Virginia, a key colony in the resistance, would have backed out. Washington’s troops were not very successful and they lost many battles, but they were victorious in March of 1776 when they forced the British to withdraw from Boston. He then moved his troops to New York City where they fought in the largest battle of the revolution. The british army launched an attack that killed 2,800 men.
Built in 1705, the Colonial Williamsburg 's capitol had made decisions that have changed the history of the U.S. with years of work put in to validate it. In fact, many decisions by historical geniuses influenced history, and majorly affected our current rights and independence from Britain. In addition, guidelines left behind from the colonial age taught us how to maintain a fair government of which a democracy takes place. Also, Virginia would still be owned by Britain without the capitol. To add on, years of work in the capitol make today a better generation.

While not the inspiration for the Pennsylvania Avenue that can be found in the childhood classic board game of Monopoly, that one is in Atlantic City, the Pennsylvania Avenue located in Washington D.C. has had great significance in our nation’s past and continues to be a vital passageway of today. It began as the link between the Capitol Building and the White House. The Avenue grew to be the main street of Washington D.C., and given that is the capital, was granted the title “America’s Main Street”. Intersecting Pennsylvania Avenue are streets titled First Street, Second Street, and so on. The Capitol is located near First Street.
Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.

Washington was an outstanding general to had brought hope into the minds of his people in a time of despair. Inexperienced in running such a huge army he made the impossible, possible. He had led his army through the crucial weather, disease and several hardships.
