Ebenezer Scrooge’s character greatly varies from the beginning to the end of “A Christmas Carol”. When readers first meet the main character, Scrooge, they get the impression that he solely has a heart of coal. By the middle of the story, he was summoned by the spirits of Christmas past, present and future to show him how the rest of the towns’ people view him. The whole point of the spirit’s visit was to use the final blow on Scrooge’s Arctic organs and give him a few more scenarios of what happens in the possible future.

Scrooge is showed the future but Scrooge thinks he has already changed completely because he has no idea that the person the men are talking about is him. Scrooge is changing fast but he has not seen the shadows that have not happened but will happen soon "You are about to show me shadows of the things that have not happened, but will happen in the time before us," Scrooge pursued.
