In the year 2018 is it quite common to see girls as young as seven years old wearing low cut shorts, crop tops, and even makeup. Showing as much skin as possible while having your face perfectly contoured is the ideal image that most young girls want to have. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian play a huge role in influencing young girls to be insecure about their bodies. Elizabeth Wissinger does a wonderful job at explaining how celebrities have created female insecurities using Glamour labor. Glamour labor has been being used for years and is one of the reasons behind female insecurities. When you pick up the newest edition of the Cosmopolitan fashion magazine, on the front cover is an image that has been filtered and constructed to display a perfect person. Rather this is done with dieting, personal trainers, or plastic surgery celebrities are glamour laborers who are using glamour labor to achieve their flawless appearance. The goal of glamour laborers is to be able to modify their bodies into something that everyone can look at and admire in hopes of gaining a reward for their work. Rather this reward is a modeling job, likes on Instagram, or a contract with a big company, glamour laborers all work to self-promote their bodies to become successful. Due to that fact that fashion trends and the image of femininity are constantly changing, not everyone who works hard to look the best ends up a big celebrity. On the bright side, those who do become successful gain money to buy luxurious houses and appear on magazines covers and shows such as Dancing with the Stars.
