Global Warming: Why Americans Should Help Arctic Animals

968 Words4 Pages

Since 1906, the average surface temperature around the world has increased from 1.1 degrees to 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (Global Warming Effects). This rise in temperature is causing glaciers and ice to melt, condensation patterns to shift, and animals are being forced to move to colder areas (Global Warming Effects). Climate change is not only affecting landforms, but animals too. Melting glaciers are directly harming animals and destroying their homes (Global Warming Effects). How should Americans help animals all around the world with the effect of global warming? Americans should help Arctic animals due to the dangerous effects of climate change. If Americans start making a difference, animals all around the world can be saved from extinction …show more content…

Due to greenhouse usage, it started to get much warmer over the years. 2012 and 2016 are recorded to be the warmest years ever (Global Warming and Thompson). Every month in 2016 was above its average temperature and many areas reached their hottest temperatures ever in this year (Thompson). Global warming did not start because of natural changes; human activities and greenhouse usage changed the the temperature tremendously. Greenhouse gases have a huge impact on the ozone layer and climate of earth (Mathanker). “The findings tell us that ‘the speed at which the climate responds to even a small change in greenhouse gases appears to be quite fast,’ said study lead author Nerilie Abram, a paleoclimate scientist at the Australian National University, to the Associated Press,” (Kauffman). Ever since global warming started animal populations have decreased. Animal’s lives are at risk because of this rise in temperature. Climate change is important because it is affecting landforms, animals, and humans negatively. Many environmental scientists have been researching this topic and they have concluded that it is greenhouse gases that is causing this massive problem. Many say that if global warming continues it will result in a violent event in the natural world (Thompson).Global warming has been going on for a very long time and it continues to be a huge issue in our world and …show more content…

Many animals are being forced to move to other areas. Animal’s habitats are being destroyed which leaves them to have to find new ones and that can create major changes in their migration pattern, behaviors, and much more (Effects on Wildlife and Habitat). These animals must move to places that have cooler temperatures and higher altitudes which leaves the animals that already live there hopeless. Many animal species are becoming endangered and some even extinct. For example, the orange-spotted filefish, quiver tree, polar bear, Adelie penguin, North Atlantic cod, and all coral are now endangered. The golden toad has become extinct due to the droughts and other effects of climate change (7 Species Hit Hard by Climate Change). This shows how serious global warming is becoming. Global warming is causing animals to migrate, nest, or mate too early, and this can create many problems. When this happens, an animal’s natural signals get disturbed which can cause them to wake up from hibernation too early with no food (Global Warming). Catholics believe in showing respect for all of God’s amazing creations. It is a vital part of the Catholic faith to protect and care for the earth’s creatures (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). “This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions that cannot be ignored,” (United States Conference of Catholic
