We believe in only one God, but as in The Odyssey, by Homer, they believe in many gods. The relationship between man and the Greek gods differs greatly from the relationship between man and the one true God in areas, such as connection, interaction, and suffering.
Man has a personal loving relationship that God has with us is every special, unique, and never ending. In Romans 5:8 says that God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinner, Christ died for us. He loves us so much that he sent his only begotten son to die for us so that we can live. In The Odyssey, Odysseus prayed to Zeus, “but his sacrifice failed to move the god”(618). The Greek god Zeus didn’t hear the prayers from Oddyseus when he prayed to him. The love of the Greek gods isn't the same as God's unfailing love he has for us. The connection that we have between God and man is a connection that is complete and very strong. In this God breathes his everlasting living love in us. Do you know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit Dwells in you ( 1 Corinthians 3:16)? Our body is a temple of God of God and he is living in all of us. Our God is a God who knows everyone of our thoughts, our prayers, and is living and breathing in each and everyone of us. On the other hand, the Greek gods are full of anger, always fighting, and constanting harming the people. The people in The Odyssey only cries out to their gods in the time of need. “We flung our arms at Zeus, we wept and cried aloud, looking on at his gripsy work paralyzed, appalled”(331-332).
