Going Solo, Roald Dahl's memoir of his work in East Africa and his service in the RAF, 5covers much of the buildup to World War II. In the book mention is made of the Tanzanian tribes and people. Tanzania plays a large role in the memoir as Dahl says about them that "in 1919 Germany had been forced to hand the territory over to the British who renamed it Tanganyika" (p.52). In fact, Tanzania is important because of the wars that happened there, and how they have become an independent state. (thesis)

Tanzania is a state in east Africa that has had a concerned history. In 1890 Britain and Germany signed a treaty dividing the area between them. Britain took Zanzibar and Germany took Mainland Tanzania, but after a while the German pursuit ended. In 1919, grants Britain a League of Nations mandate to govern the former German East Africa - which now acquires a new name, Tanganyika(pg.52). The British used the governing structures that were made by the Germans to rule over Tanganyika, but under the governorship of Sir Donald Cameron (governor from 1925 to 1931) they failed it. Tanganyika becomes UN Trust Territory under British
