People are afraid of taking risks because of failure. They are afraid to fail and not get anywhere. However, that fear can be overcome is they keep pushing and keep trying and keep taking risks.
Nasa is looking into different ways to send people to other planets and a safer or more efficient ways to get there. To help meet their goal of sending people to mars, nasa is creating the Asteroid Redirect Mission, it is the first-ever mission to analyze, seize, and alter a near-Earth asteroid to a balanced orbit around the moon. Once there, astronauts will be able to explore it and collect data from it. Nasa is guessing that in 2020s all of this will take place.

Thinking specifically about the book and movie The Martian, I definitely think that both have given humans hope that Mars is an option for future habitability, especially if we manage to completely ruin Earth. At the same time, if you go off of the sheer number of shows, movies, and books regarding what Earth looks like after we wreck it, a vast majority of people also assume that it’s not if we ruin our planet, it’s when. The best example I could think of regarding the overwhelming response to The Martian, is a tweet I saw from Andy Weir talking about how he’d been invited to talk with some people at NASA. Not only did people find the book interesting, but people are also latching onto the hard science he used as a framework for the story.
On Mars, humans are exposed to radiation. On Earth, however, humans are protected by a magnetic field. The effects of exposure are severe memory loss, brain damage, and cancer. That would be terrible for scientists, because when they have to go exploring for samples scientists would have to be very cautious. Although the gravity on Mars allows humans to jump higher and run faster, scientists have observed what happens to humans in low-gravity environments, including weakened immune systems, extreme fatigue, and muscle and bone loss.

A video of the moon landing, in addition to further geological evidence, has been collected and used as challenging points towards questioning its originality.

The predicament that Mark gets into is that he gets stuck on Mars. The Martian is about Mark trying to get back to Earth and the people at NASA. The key things that strike the reader in The Martian are the great use of suspense and humor.

Those who would spend 6-8 months traveling to Mars would endure the worst of these symptoms. It also doesn’t help that the gravity on Mars is ⅓ that of Earth’s. The gravity on Venus is 9/10th that of Earth’s. This makes for a much more comfortable and livable environment.
