In today's world of freelancers and a growing independent workforce, it is not uncommon for a business to exist without a physical location. Imagine the independent party planner who visits people personally, in their home or office. She provides value to her customers by using a small corner of her home as an office and keeping overhead to a minimum. That said, she does not want her home address popping up in local searches and people just randomly dropping by. Therefore, a frequently asked question in these situations is, "How can I rank in local search without a physical address?"

While is is possible, Google is adverse to showing businesses that do not have a physical location within a local search. They will do it, but if there a choice, the business with an address will win out. Also, using a PO Box will not work. Organic Search - Even when there is a local search, Google includes organic search results. Many large websites like Zillow and Angie's List do very well using organic search to target local searchers. All you need to do is create a cornerstone content page, and build its authority with internal and external links.

2. Use a Virtual Address - While technically this goes against Google's rules, it can work. Using a PO Box is obvious, but using a service that proved you with a suite number can work. It is even better if you have the ability to meet clients at the location. If you use this option, there is a chance Google will catch on.
