Why the government should get rid of charter schools?

Education Minister Chris Hopkins is closing the door on future charter schools and giving existing ones notice that he can make them close up shop by the end of the school year. The government should close charter schools for 3 reasons. First they have a two tier system and are able to change timetables, charter schools get more money, and they choose who they hire and fire.

"Charter schools in New Zealand, labelled as Partnership Schools or Kura Hourua, receive government funding similar to state schools but are subject to fewer rules and regulations from the Ministry of Education." "Parata confirmed it would be possible for non-registered teachers to teach in the new "partnership schools." The problem with allowing them to hire an uncertified teacher to teach kids that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Since teachers are such huge part of the kids lives that you can't afford to have a potential ex-convict teaching kids. It would be like having an uncertified judge, since the judge makes such huge decisions it would be silly for someone who was untrained to determined the length of someone's sentence to jail. It may be helpful since New Zealand is having a teacher shortage "A nationwide teacher shortage is now beginning to bite, to the extent that some are saying the profession has reached a crisis point from which it will take years to recover." We do need more teachers and in order to meet this shortage we are needing to hire uncertified teachers. Charter schools had been around before this teacher shortage so they were still hiring unqualified teachers to teach growing children and young adults not knowing what they have to bring to the
