Why Are Charter Schools Failing

It is no secret that the public education system in America has been struggling for quite some time now. I myself have seen the public education system in Florida, and it is failing. There were many different things I disagreed with in my education, and I wished I could have changed it. I get to create a charter school from the ground up. In definition “a charter school is an independently run public school granted greater flexibility in its operations, in return for greater accountability for performance” (cite). There are plethora’s of reasons why the school systems are failing all around us. In the charter school that I will create, I will make sure that these keys issues are addressed. These are fundamental ideas that make the school system flow, and this will stay the same. We still need teachers and principals, I want students to be able to pick their non-core classes, and mascots make everything fun with some spirit. We will also have the idea of the functionalist perspective which goes into the manifest function where students learn social norms and recognize consequences (cite). The idea of having honor and AP classes will also stay the same as normal public school, this is known as tracking. Tracking is when we separate learning due to presumed academic abilities (cite). Schools today are so adamant about punishing students, so the punishment system will be student based. However, tests are still necessary to see what students are learning, but students are now too focused on how to pass the test rather than mastering the material. In New Bay of Technology there will still be test, but just less of them and they will learn more skills that they will lead like: how to do taxes, buy houses, how the economy works, and other technical skills. Students will also learn how to take problems and they solve them in more ways than just one, this will be one of the main goals of this school. They will be forced to step out of their confront zone and learn how to think outside of the box. Students will also learn to be different and embrace difference as well. Safety will be taking very seriously at New Bay of Technology. There will be no tolerance for weapons of any kind. There will be a strict no bullying policy. This includes: physical, emotional, and cyberbullying. There will also be no toleration for harassment. Students who bully will face the student review board and may be removed from the school. Students who want to remain in New Bay of Technology will refrain from bullying due to the fact that if they do bully, they may be expelled from the school. Students who identify as LGBT will be encouraged to attend and we will create a safe environment for
