Charter Schools are publically funded independent schools that are established by teacher, parents, or community groups under the terms of a charter with a local or national authority. While some of societies public schools a tumbling down, this new form of school has tried to attempt to help at risk youth prosper in life by trying to give them the necessary means to become successful and over come the some obstacles that they may face. There are approximately 6,800 charter schools now open and operated in 43 states, which serves fiver percent of the nation’s public school students. With states regulating charter schools, each state has its own standards and requirements for charter schools. Therefore, this is why it may be difficult to assess their overall performance. Critics state that “in 2013 charter schools did no better or worse than traditional schools, and the reason for the difference on why they may out preform some schools now is because of the composition of the student body in charter schools (CQ researcher, pg. 220).” It was also stated “charter schools lack the accountability and transparency of traditional schools governed by elected school boards, making it difficult or impossible for taxpayers to determine whether charter schools are using their money wisely (CQ Researcher, pg 220).” A study was conducted and found by “the Center for Popular Democracy, which is a liberal advocacy group in Washington, that $216 million has been lost in waste, fraud or abuse in charter schools since 1994 (CQ Researcher, pg. 220). Critics have also claimed that these “charter chains appear more interested in making money than in education students (CQ Researcher, pg. 221).” With charter schools being very disciplinary, this has raised questions on their approaches they to make sure that students are not being unnecessarily pushed out of schools (CQ Researcher, pg.
