I’m currently a student at San Joaquin Valley College, working towards becoming a certified medical assistant in which I have proficiency in typing skills and accomplished CPR and HIPAA certification. My passion is the medical field where I can assist the needs and services of others while being able to connect and create a comfortable environment for patients. On an interpersonal level, I excel as a conversationalist to personalize each interaction I encounter. There are many reasons why I want to be a social worker. When I was young, my family went through some traumatic changes. To help me cope, my mother sent me to see the school social worker. I spent loads of time in a social worker's office for most of my life so I’ve been lucky to have a firsthand experience with the work done by social workers. I’ve seen the changes and differences that are made in people's lives and I want to be a part of that.
Why did you choose that agency and the relevance for your future clients? Being an active duty military spouse, the military lifestyle has become a large part of my identity and I belong within the military community. Working for the Airman and Family Readiness Center as a Social Worker is very much a “calling” for me. When I was a new spouse without a support system, the stresses related to the military were much more than I ever imagined. Now that I am a seasoned spouse who will soon earn her MSW, I really want to be there for the new military members at the best of my abilities.
How did you develop an interest in social work? As I mentioned in the portions about my life this far my brother had ADHD growing up and it caused many problems for my family. Going to counseling and seeing how many children were struggling, and how many single parents there were made me want to help.
My major is Sociology, however my career goal is Social Services for the aging. I chose this particular career because I enjoy helping others. As a Social worker, I would be able to consult and assist the elderly by offering safety, security, support, and guidance by referring them to various agencies. Social Workers are a growing industry and is always needed because of the high demand due to mental and health issues people endure. In order for me to reach my goals as a Social Worker, I will be transferring into a baccalaureate institute, Kean University, majoring in Sociology minor in Social Work.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality. Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference and help anyone in need that I possibly could. From the start of my childhood, I can recall helping my mother care for my great grandparents, so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives from their home, instead of in a nursing home. As a young child it was extremely difficult to live with and watch my loved ones deteriorate as they got older, as their condition got worse and worse, and saw my mother having a difficult time keeping up with caring for both of my great grandparents 24/7, it put a lot of stress on the family. However, I am grateful to have been able to help my mother care for them. Growing up in such a caring and loving household made the situation
My desire to work in the field of nursing has stemmed from my childhood. When I was a toddler I got into in a serious car accident that left me hospitalized for around 6 months. Of course, a lot of nurses became involved with my treatment and growing up my grandmother would tell me of how well they took care of me. The nurses were very attentive of changing the bandages on my wounds which were very severe. I have always exhibited the desire to help people who are injured and ill.
Introduction The interview was conducted on Saturday, 5th of August 2017, at 4 pm. This interview session lasted about 30 minutes. My interviewee is a 56 years old Malay male, Mr. Hady (pseudonym). Mr. Hady was born and raised in Singapore who has lived in Bishan for the past 20 years with his family.
In the first year, I was a part of a pioneering youth development team in Americorps NCCC Southwest Region. I worked with K-12 students in title one schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, local non-profit organizations, The Red Cross and The Salvation Army. I spent my second year working with underserved youth as a volunteer coordinator for Reading Partners in DC. I learned about the struggles that the students I worked with dealt with every day. I was also able to interact with parents and provide resources for education, housing, food, and nutrition.
I am applying for a place to study social work because I have always wanted to be able to make a difference to people's lives. With social work I believe I can do this in a caring and supportive way. Many of my life experiences have led me to who I am today. The first thing I remember that caught my attention was how my cousin would always stay with my family. He would be spent weeks with at my house without contract with his parents.
For as long as I can remember, I have possessed a desire to help people, especially those who are less fortunate than me. This trait along with life experiences are what drew me to want to pursue a career in social work. I want to be available to provide support to people when they have nowhere else to turn. My experiences in social work have taught me to celebrate the small victories just as much as the big.
