Grit and Growth Mindset Winston Churchill once said, ¨Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.¨ People who believe that failure is acceptable, like Winston Churchill, will do better in all areas of life, and will have a characteristic known as grit. Grit is passion and perseverance over long term goals, and sticking with that goal until it is achieved. Growth mindset is the ability to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and find lessons in the success of others. Both of these characteristics are vital to success, as proven in studies done by Carol Dweck and Angela Lee Duckworth. Grit and growth mindset can help one in all aspects of life such as academics, personal life, and career because when one has the ability to understand criticism, persist through challenges, and stick wit a goal until it is achieved, it can make the essentially unstoppable. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the high school dropout rate is eleven percent. Growth mindset is vital when completing a fitness related goal. Embracing challenges, such as climbing up a steep hill when thoughts such as ¨I can 't do it¨ or ¨this is impossible¨ are constantly running through your mind.
