The definition of success from Alain de Botton is making a person’s own way, by creating the person's own success on their terms, the book Drive is having motivation and being intrinsically motivated while The Work, an autobiography, We Moore talks about finding his purpose in life, in being successful. There are different ways people are able to succeed are the components of being intrinsically motivated entwined with grit along with family narrative spliced with a purpose in view of the fact that, it helps the person have a drive to be successful in life and work. Wes Moore showed grit because of his tenacity of his perseverance. Grit by Angela Duckworth, is a trait demonstrated to be successful. “Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.” (TED Duckworth). This is shown in The Work by Wes Moore has a perfect example of grit, “...every day people in all kinds of circumstances all over the world get up and find a way to do them” (Moore 118). Grit is the component of intrinsically motivated such churns into success and Wes Moore did so by using it in the military. Intrinsically motivated is the more built version of “Intrinsic aspirations - to help others improve their lives, to learn, and to grow- or what we might think of as ‘purpose goals’”( Pink 142). Moore, after leaving a banking job he disliked, felt like he had returned to being internally sparked, thus talking about his time in uncertainty, “I felt my horizon so recently narrowed suddenly widening again. And I felt the relationship to the idea of government shifting once again” (Moore 102). He having the notion of having his perspective shifted. Moore, going to an interview for the Fellowship, at the White House, a interviewer had asked him how all his time, in the military, finance and at the government had intermixed.
