Giving up on tough situations has always been the easy way out. It takes genuine
motivation and discipline to really buckle down and apprehend a problem head on. It takes real
determination and true grit. Being gritty is no different from being impelled to do something or
driven for success. To be gritty is to be motivated, motivated to finish whatever it is you had
started and expect nothing but direct greatness without any negativity whatsoever. This will
also mean that you have a strong mindset, one that will constantly help you grow. This way of
thinking is called the Growth mindset. To always think about the positives of pursuing success.
Failure may sometimes, or often, be a result, but never will it be an option.

In a paper, she writes that “the gritty individual
approaches achievement as a marathon; his or her advantage is stamina””. In other words,
Hanford is displaying the meaning of grit using Angela Duckworth’s words, showing that grit
comes from wanting to really surpass everyone around you as a moral sense of duty and
responsibility. Once came a time when playing basketball wasn’t a skill that I was necessarily
good at. I had some friends that were amazing players since their elementary school days.
When playing with them I felt that I would never reach to their level of skill for they were so
good. Soon I had to decided to at least push myself hard enough to actually be able to run a
game, and eventually in time, I was able to, if not beat them in a head on game, come toe to
toe with them, pushing them, including myself, to our limits. I made sure that I wasn’t just
going to be the person who would watch them play anymore. I made sure that I would be the
one playing the game.
