However, in the article, “Why College Isn’t for Everyone”, Matthews describes a diagram taken from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Based on the diagram, the lower quartile demonstrates that students with a four year degree seemingly do not make more money than a high school graduate. While this may sound as if people should not attend college, the root cause of this problem is that individuals are not putting enough thought into their future. In other words, individuals who do not have a future plan for their career or degree is negatively affecting society. They may be moving from one job to another and sacrificing a lower pay for a job, ultimately not knowing what they want to do with their earned degree.

The authors examine numerous studies to identify the factors that lead people to be picky while selecting the correct college. For instance, the authors indicate that an extra year of education raises earnings by about $3,000 per year.
People being educated can be a great influence to people in today’s society. Charles Murray believe that a college degree is like a “a price ticket for employees”. The two reasons Murray says is that “employees do not value what students learned, just that the student has a degree” the other reason is “employees do not even look at applicants who have no college degree”. College is beneficial and plays a big part because we can gain more knowledge and learn how to be a responsible young adult and about our own

My life in Chicago made me who I am today determined to be greater than what the neighborhood I came from. My parents always made sure I was off the streets putting me in different programs such as Softball, Basketball,Football, Boys and Girls Club, and even the Lighthouse Youth Center. All of those programs helped build a man motivating me to not be only a follower but also a leader. The lighthouse Youth Center gave me my first job at fourteen my last year in Chicago which I thank them to this day for giving me the opportunity. As I transitioned to the South Suburbs my relationship with my parents started to get iffy as I started to have my own opinion.

Even though some people actually, very few people, become very successful without education.

However, having a college education will give you a much higher chance for you to have that job you have always wanted,(the car,etc.). Therefore, what I am saying is that college is a great tool to become successful and it is better with it than without it. Although opponents believe that college is not needed because of the amount of money that is involved to pay for college. This idea is not valid because in the future,(if attending college) the amount of money you spend for college will be similar to a investment that can change you life.
