During this time period, material possessions often clouded morality. As technology and industry boomed, people became more occupied with the expansion of railroads, the use of natural resources, and more efficient ways of doing things. As a result, environments were inadvertently damaged and workers faced inhumane conditions in factories. As industry rapidly increased, hundreds of thousands of miles of railroads constructed across Europe and the United States gave way to the new era of industry which further consumed nonrenewable resources from the planet (Grant 223-225). With Marconi’s devotion to God, he would justly protect our Earth that He created from harm through industrialization, technology, and urbanization. Marconi vowed to work alongside the powers of nature, not to take away from it. Moreover, Guglielmo would agree that exhausting the environment to excel in science, technology, or industry is not the purpose that God intended.
