In the Chapter eighteen Pollan brings up the idea of speciesism, the idea that we shouldn't treat animals differently just because of their species. Peter Singer (who wrote a book on speciesism) argues that we favor humans over animals that have higher intelligence than us. Singer then brings up talks about how chimpanzees would have more worth than a disabled child or an elder with memory loss. While initially reading this passage, it’s hard to take Peter Singer serious for a bit, I mean he’s comparing other animals having more worth than human beings. But when he breaks down that animals have emotion as well, should we take more consideration in the way that we treat animals?

The Middle Age was a period of great distress and economic problems for many serfs. The effects of the middle ages for serfs were limited food, limited space, and limited water. With these harsh issues, I very much disagree the way of life in which they lived during the middle ages. During this time the serfs were living unsafe lives due to unclean water and limited food. Today’s society is more unthinkable when it comes to dreams.
Analytical Summary In the article “Low-Wage Workers Are Finding Poverty Harder to Escape,” Greenhouse (2014) states that a huge number of families in the United States are low-wage workers. As a result of this low salary, they continue to live under poverty even though if they work for more hours. Some of them resort to charities to get financial help. The years between 500-1189 were “Golden Ages” because in the late Middle Ages there was more farmland, better tools to farm it, meant more food. More food meant that the population grew in Europe! Another reason why this was a Golden Time is because Ghana had an army that could protect traders, they worked hard, but they were safe and protected, and they had plenty to eat. The first reason it could be considered the Golden Era is because there was more farmland, if they had more farmland they would have more food, and if they had more food that would mean they also had more population. My evidence is “Available farmland tripled, and the food supply increased notably bringing up the population.
