According to the data collected during the years of 2011 through 2016, by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on an average day 93 Americans are killed by a gun. Society has argued for years on an effective solution to help stop the killings that happen with guns frequently. Gun control laws have been effective, but more progress can be made to lower the killing rate of not only Americans but also all humans across the world. To clarify, the definition of gun control from dictionary.com is the government control of the sale and ownership of firearms. In addition, if lawmakers are able to create new gun control laws they would be helping decrease burglary rates. Therefore, new laws created would lower the chance of burglary, because the individual who is planning on robbing would not have easy access to a harmful weapon, such as a gun. A thief would be less likely to rob, because with the gun control laws in place they are less threatening. Without having a weapon, catching the intruder would be an easier assignment. Crime rates have dropped in the western nations, but not as drastically as in the United States (Bailey and Borwein). “According to The Economist, among the G-7 nations of Europe, robbery rates declined 21 percent from 1995 to 2010, … , and vehicle theft fell 46 percent. In England and Wales, for instance, 400,000 cars were stolen in 1997, but only 86,000 in 2012” (Bailey and Borwein 2). Those who disagree with gun control laws assume that very limited or no access to guns is available. It would not be impossible to purchase a gun, but one must be reliable and meet certain standards to own a gun. According to a small arms survey taken by Jonathan Masters in 2007, 88.8 people out of 100 own a firearm in the United States (Masters). Establishing new gun control laws will lower that number of people who feel the need to own a firearm to protect themselves. People who own a weapon without meeting the standards can be extremely harmful for themselves and others. The Second Amendment ensures that having firearms is a right that will not and can not be taken away, but limitations will always be present. “The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states: "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Supreme Court rulings, citing this amendment, have upheld the right of states to regulate firearms” (Masters). The United States will presumably always follow the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, but certain rules must be followed. Early 2016, Barack Obama, the former president of the United States expanded the federal background checks for those who want to buy a gun or
