Do you own a gun? what do you think about the fact that some “paranoid” people want to ban your mean of protection and entertainment? or are you on the side that think that firearms are dangerous, and that this danger overweighs the protection that owning them have? if so, what do you think we should do about your “crazy” neighbor who loves guns and you suspect that might have a whole arsenal on his basement? Every once in a while, a disgrace happens. Maybe some random person went into the closest middle school, shopping-mall, or just at the street, and started shooting everyone that gets on his/her way. 30,000, shameful, isn’t it? 30,000 is the number of lives that we lose every year from guns, 20,000 from suicides, and 11,000-12,000 from homicides (Waldman, para 7 and 12), and injure about 81,000 persons more per year (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) Without guns out there, it is estimated that the suicide rate would decrease about 82% (Washington Post). But of course, we need to protect our families and enjoy of this wonderful hobby, even tradition for some, that has been put deep into our culture, all we need is to pay some thousands of lives to keep that possibility …show more content…
Countries like Japan, Singapore, and England have these restrictions, and their numbers are much smaller than here in the US (Waldman, para 12). Japan for example, had only 40 deaths in 2007 (the largest number in more than 10 years), England with 60 deaths, and Singapore with similar number, it is indubitable that gun control in those countries has done an excellent job keeping those numbers down (gunpolicy.org) However, let’s not forget that there are around 300 million firearms in the US, and getting rid of them, being realist, would be an extremely challenging task because Americans won’t just give up to them easily. But this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to improve thing little by little, are you telling me that because it is hard we should let those 30,000 lives slid just like that, without even trying to do anything about it? No, that is not the answer, we can’t ignore that. If it worked for those countries, why wouldn’t it work for
