Gun control is becoming a big issue today in this world. With guns being allowed with everyday people, there are too many incidents of them being used in negative ways. With this and in order to prevent the deaths of humans and animals, there should be greater restrictions on who should be able to have a gun, like not having them in homes and having more checks before allowing someone to have a gun. Guns in a home is an easy way for people, especially children, to get a hold of firearms. With recent surveys, it has been found that roughly 40%-45% of households have a gun (Copel). Now, there are many more school shootings than there used to be. With the guns in homes, it is easy for these students to get a hold of a gun and take it with them to school. Out of 40 K-12 school shootings, 28 of them were committed by minors, like the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. Of the 16 shootings where the source of the firearm was identified, 10 of them were from guns at home (Copel). This is at least 10 less shootings that wouldn’t have happened and many lives that wouldn’t have been lost, if we had stricter laws on the possession of guns. …show more content…

In 2008, over sixteen-thousand murders were committed in the U.S. Almost eleven-thousand, or sixty-seven percent, were committed by firearms (Agresti). I feel that America is not as concerned about who does and doesn’t have guns as it should be. It is too easy to get a gun and use it for injuring, or killing, a person. We should be more organized on how we let people get possession of a gun, like having background checks and keeping track of who has the guns.
