Imagine Oprah announcing “You get a gun. She gets a gun. He gets a gun. Everyone gets a gun!” No. I know we live in America, but that’s not how we should operate. Over the past month, we witnessed one of the largest school shooting since columbine. The incident in Florida us with 17 people dead. This is why we must pass gun control laws. Gun control laws should be passed because they condense gun deaths in America and to protect the second-amendment.
My initial reasoning on passing gun control laws would reduce gun deaths in America. In 1999, we witnessed columbine. Since then, America has not enforced strict gun control laws. As a result, we had school or mass shooting in America almost every year since columbine. The fact we had Fort Gibson, Flint Michigan, Lakewood Florida, Louisiana, and many more, just proves that there were no laws to pass gun control. June 12th, 2016, pulse night club shooting, 50 were people killed. President Obama called on an act prohibiting the sale of assault-style weapons. The second amendment, ratified in 1791, states that citizens have the right to bear arms. Correct, but these are the people who have the correct mental state to bear arms. Your second amendment does not provide you the right to bear arms just because you are a citizen, your second amendment provides you the right to bear arms because you follow the laws to bear arms. On June 9, 2016, According to the United states circuit court of appeals rule 7-4 of the general public carried Assault rifles in public.
