Introduction
This report will be comparing and contrasting the principles of regulation for professional practice between two professions; a Nurse and a Social Worker.
This report will be focusing on a variety of areas for both professions such as professional education, registration and revalidation, codes of conduct and ethical behaviour, professional boundaries, the framework of clinical governance as well as the parameters that occur within professional practice.
Professional Education
Nurse
In order for someone to become a registered nurse they must first of all complete a university degree course which usually takes three years to complete. Nursing can be studied in several universities across Scotland and students can choose between Adult, Mental Health, Children’s or Learning Disability Nursing. In

Professional Boundaries are put into place to encompass ethical issues and give an understanding of what is professionally and morally acceptable. By establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients, nurses can keep within their boundaries whilst maintaining empathy, trust and confidentiality.
Social Worker
A Social Workers’ professional boundaries are governed by the SSSC’s ‘Code of Practice’ and covers expectations in regard to both personal and professional boundaries. Social Workers are accountable for ensuring that relationships with their service users stay within the professional boundaries and are able to make ethical and value based judgements in the best interests of their service users without creating a conflict of professionalism.
