Hello, I am applying for the practicum position at Harmony House. I was extremely pleased to discover and learn about this organization at the agency fair held at Carleton University. I am currently a second-year student in the Bachelor of Social Work program at Carleton University, and I hope to be considered for the social work practicum position for the upcoming 2017-2018 year. I believe that the work done by Harmony House does an immense amount of good for the community, and provides a safe space for those who need it most. I believe the duality of Harmony House is an especially beautiful aspect of this organization, as providing assistance will help immensely. However, teaching women and children the skills and techniques to live independently is what will really have an impact on the women and children that Harmony House assists. I would love to obtain the practicum position at Harmony House, as I feel as though this position would be an amazing opportunity to help others. I have a great deal of experience working with children and youth in diverse communities. I spent a summer working with adolescent newcomers to Canada, and I feel that my skills working with immigrant communities, in conjunction with my own personal experience as a child of immigrants, would be displayed in this type of organization. Harmony House assists a diverse group of women, and I believe that my experience with immigrants and refugees would show within an organization that assists racially and ethnically diverse women. I have tutored children for numerous years, been a counsellor in multiple camps, and have been a teaching assistant in an elementary school.
