The famed book To Kill a Mockingbird would not be anything without the genius behind the words, Harper Lee. Harper Lee was a humble, curious, and generous woman. Harper Lee’s childhood, adulthood, and experiences later on in life have helped shape her stylistic writing and person. Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926 as Nelle Harper Lee. Her parents were Amasa Coleman and Frances Cunningham Finch. Her father, Amasa Coleman, was an American politician and lawyer. Her mother, Frances Cunningham Finch, suffered a mental illness, bipolar disorder and possibly manic depression. Growing up, as a tomboy, Lee was a loner ; she was an individualist.
