Leah Adams English Period 2 April 23, 2024 Harriet Tubman's Adventurous Life Harriet Tubman spent ten years risking her life by liberating slaves (National Park Service). Tubman was a well-known slave who was very involved with the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, she was a spy, nurse, cook, and scout. If she got caught helping a slave escape, she could have been killed, arrested, or beaten (National Park Service). Harriet Tubman took a risk and influenced others by liberating many slaves and leading a very successful expedition in the Civil War. When Tubman was a young girl, her family split up. Although she didn't grow up with lots of knowledge, she took what she knew and applied it to make her dreams come true. “She never learned to read or write, but was smart, calculating, and bold—and was never caught during her 13 dangerous missions to lead her friends and family out of slavery” (Harriet Tubman Underground). She didn't need the classroom knowledge all the rich kids had. She needed bravery, and that is exactly what she had. Losing her family at such a young age pushed her to keep going, no matter the struggle. The hopes of seeing her family again and making a difference in other slaves' lives pushed Tubman. To complete her 13 missions, she needed to be bold, not book smart. Tubman was blessed with the right traits to do what she desired. The outcome of Tubman's actions inspired others and saved many lives. She guided many slaves to freedom and saved their lives. “She courageously returned to Maryland at least 13 times over the course of a decade to rescue her parents, brothers, family members, and friends, guiding them safely to freedom” (Harriet Tubman Underground).
