Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace

Monitoring and reviewing is a key factor of maintaining health and safety standards in the workplace, this is also a mandate to comply with the Health and Safety Regulations 1992 (HSE, 2003) . This aim to reduce or prevent accidents and injuries, lower rates of malpractice by care staff and improved morale among the staff and for the team.
The Heritage Healthcare health and safety policy is reviewed annually, or right after a serious health and safety cases and when imposed by the regulations to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974, pp. 2-4) . All of us working at Heritage Healthcare …show more content…

Henceforth, based on the circular report that was given to us, it says that an improvement on health and safety culture was felt at all levels, a reduction in accidents, incidents and injuries; lost-time injuries reduced from staff. As a care worker working for Heritage Healthcare, I saw an improvement on our work practices. The support also improved by providing us more relevant training like administering medication training to help us follow the right procedures in administering medication based on the Administering Medication policy. The training helped me develop my health and safety skills to become more competent and confident at work.
The most significant positive health and safety culture that I noticed is a boost to staff morale and pride because of acknowledging our performance in doing health and safety assessment. Having team building activities helped us to do our work more effectively. I never felt being excluded while working with staff having diverse cultures and languages. I remembered being told by my trainer that we should not use an inappropriate equipment that might put the service user at risk (HSE, 2016, p. 13). We were told to call an ambulance and let them do the moving and lifting of Ms. J. Knowing what I know now, I will not be afraid to challenge my supervisor when it comes to the health and safety of the service user.
