Day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute the health care field is evolving! Technology is always advancing and there is always new information to be learned. The health care field is said to be the best there is for employment. No matter what there is always someone who will need your care. When one thinks of health care professionals, doctors or nurses may come to mind, but so many more are involved. There’s STNA’s, LPN’s, PA’s, pharmacist, OT, PT and so much more. Many do not understand the importance of each and every one of the persons that make up the health care system. I interviewed Karen, a respiratory therapist at UTMC.

Karen has also done research, sleep studies, and pulmonary function tests/studies. She highly encourages nursing students to participate as much as possible. “The more experience the better”, she says (K.Smith, personal communication, May 28, 2015). She strongly encouraged doing all you can to get your “feet wet”. On a daily basis Karen and other respiratory therapist work very closely with nurses to help collaborate on the patient’s care. She says they work “well” together for the most part. She also said, “You are always going to have clashes, nurses tend to call on us for help “(K.Smith, personal communication, May 28, 2015). It is best for the health care professionals to come together to ensure that the patient is getting adequate care. She says that time is the biggest challenge she faces when caring for a patient. She constantly busy and there is always a patient who needs her help! Karen suggests that nurses anyone else should learn how to use their time effectively so that each patient can get the attention they need. She enjoys the facility where she’s currently employed at and she feels that she has the proper resources to provide her services every day to her patients. “Everyday when I come to work is a proud day”, (K.Smith, personal communication, May 28,2015). Karen gets pleasure out of being able to help her patients feel better and do what she loves.
