In today’s new generation and growing society, the healthcare field is constantly facing new changes to be effective and influential in our community. Technological advances in my healthcare organization has rapidly increased in the last year. A few of the listed updates in this week’s course material has already been implemented in my workplace and would be astonishing to include a few more that were mentioned. These significant changes has added an increase in patient safety, patient and staff satisfaction, effective communication, and improved patient outcomes (Cleveland Clinic, 2014). These improvements has helped nurses significantly with using evidenced based practice, when providing care. Time after time, we are swamped and short staffed with no time for even a break, so the time we save by having the physicians input their own orders saves us time. Physicians are able to confirm their orders and patient’s medications, making computer charting more efficient then paper charting. My organization has also implemented the use of scanning patient’s armband to automatically input their information into different systems, such as the blood tube labels, EKG machine and vitals machine, which automatically transfers the patient’s vitals to the their chart in the documentation system. As a team, we were able to work together and improve patient care with these advances in technology, while allowing a smooth transition. My organization has a nursing informatics department that consist of several employees. The nurse informatics specialist is responsible for integrating the practice of nursing with information and computer science to effectively micro-manage and communicate
