Nursing Informatics Job Review As defined by the Canadian Nurses Association, nursing informatics is the practice and science of integrating nursing information and knowledge with technology to manage and integrate health information, with the goal of improving health of people and communities, while also reducing costs (Nursing Informatics-Canadian Nurses Association, n.d.). Nursing informatics has been established as a professional discipline and includes resources such as electronic health records, decision support, documentation, order entries and analytics (Cummins et al., 2016). In order to gain this specialty, nurses need to obtain a master’s degree or a PhD in nursing informatics (Garcia-Dia, 2021). Because of the constant evolution …show more content…

This includes but is not limited to consulting with managers to determine the role of information technology (IT), modifying and designing systems to ensure efficient workflow, overseeing installation of new systems, troubleshooting and correcting system malfunctions, educating staff on proper procedures and use of new systems as well as analyzing collected data and integrating systems across various units (Western Governors University, 2021). Employment within this field can be found in a hospital position, as a role in reducing hospital costs and patient care, as well as in private practices as a role in improving patient care at a more personal level (Western Governors University, 2021).
