At Harper College, there is not a lot of healthy food options available for the students to choose from because students tend to eat very unhealthy food options when they get hungry. Let's face it, junk food is everywhere and it is very hard to say no to sugary drinks, salty chips, and high-fat foods. This is a problem because it can contribute to many health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure. This problem affects students, teachers, and community members. Without healthy food options, students won't have the energy to stay focused during the school hours. According to the article, “Through The Eye Of I”. It talks about the serving size that each person should consume a day. A person should consume six to eleven servings of bread, cereal rice, and pasta groups. Three to three servings of vegetables, and two to four servings of fruit. Two to three servings of milk, yogurt, and cheese. Two to three servings of meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts. It is very important to have the right serving size because it will decrease many health problems. What happens if a person does not eat the right serving size?. People start to gain weight because they are eating empty calories such as chips, candy, juice that does not fill up a person. Eating unwanted food will increase the chances of eating more throughout the day. Some students, including myself tend to eat many calories of bread and ham , cheetos because Subway is around the corner and it is easier to eat than to pack a lunch. For example, Harper took away the mini lab close to the school library. They should consider putting a machine in that area by adding protein bars, dry fruit, and healthy beverages. Adding a fruit bar in the cafeteria and making it colorful because it will catch the students attention, this will increase the chances of the students to eat more fruits and vegetables. When a customer sees something colorful it usually catches their eye and it makes them want to buy it even more. This will decrease the chances of the student to eat unhealthy
