Heartaches 2: Bad Boy Vibes by H.M Irwing is an unconventional romance novel. It contains the usual passionate love relationship, and steamy sex scenes, to be expected of books in this genre. This however, is not all there is to this book.
We first meet main characters Anna Walters-Simmons and Rafe (Raphael) Brown in Heartaches: Bad Boy Vibes. Both are wounded by past offenses, having been raped by people they trusted. We see the two of them struggling to come to terms with their past, battling the legal system, and finding love in each other. Heartaches 2: Bad Boy Vibes is the continuation of their story.
In this book, Eric Dayton (Rafe’s abuser) and the Prestions (Anna’s rapists) returns. The couple managed to ruin their reputations; will the abusers seek revenge? Will Anna and Rafe survive the attack? Can their relationship stand against all odds?

Romance novels I have read before, but never has any dealt with such a dark theme. Rape, PTSD, and manipulation are a few of the heavy topics discussed in this novel. The author describes the vile acts against the victims vividly, so much so that I often had to stop reading and skip a few lines (or an entire page). You need a strong mind to read and finish this book.
There is not much about this book that enjoyed, save the main characters. I appreciated the fact that they are both portrayed as strong. This is not a case of man-save-woman, woman-falls-head-over-heels-in-love-with-man. Anna is not a damsel-in-distress, Rafe is not her saviour arriving on a white horse. They are both truly damaged characters with seriously traumatic back-stories. They help each other overcome the horrific events each had experienced before they
