When it comes to banning a book, many different criteria have to be met. With books in high school, it can be very controversial with parents as to which books need to be banned. In Schools, books are banned from things like foul language, sexual content, of just speaking about things parents or the school board may not like. In this book Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli, it is being banned because it is a story about a little Jewish boy and how it was during the Holocaust. Dean Schneider on Bookpage.com says, “Underlying this story of war and the Holocaust is a young boy’s search for a name and something to believe in.”
The concept that made the biggest impact on the way I see the world was the Chesapeake Bay unit in my 7th grade science class. I chose this because it taught me how incredibly damaged our world is. Every creature on earth affects us one way or another and they can help us in the long run. Also, that unit taught me how much littering hurts the world
In the novel Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli, the greatest threat the Jews forced to survival life in the ghetto is both the lack of food and Nazi soldiers. Nowadays, threats don't look like Nazi soldiers they look like cats and dogs and fighting. For example, Nazi soldiers “are going to forced people into the camps by deportations. They are going to get rid of all of you.” (p.169)
Including, many years ago women were seen unfit to do a lot of things, but that didn’t stop them from trying. “The Chrysanthemums” described the setting as a place that didn’t have room for wise woman. Although, Henry supported Elisa and offered for her to do things, like going to the fight; he knew deep inside that it wasn’t for her. Henry did a lot of business with other men, by selling cattle and other things around the farm, as Elisa sat back and watched from afar while planting her chrysanthemums. The story compares Elisa to the chrysanthemums, because they’re strong and beautiful, but yet ignored and unnoticed.
During this class, we read many interesting books that I enjoyed. They all changed my views on life in different ways and made me glad i chose to take this class. The novel that impacted me most was Catcher in the Rye, which was written by J.D. Salinger. I was able to relate to the main character, get attached to the novel, and make connections to the real world today.
During my first few weeks in English 103 I learned so much from my professor. The JITT posts help me become a better writer because I was exploring different styles of writing. When doing the JITT post sometimes we look at different authors writing styles and purpose in the text. When analyzing sentence structures in the text it help me to better understand the reason why the author might choose those specific words in a sentence. It helps me better understand that certain word choices helps to create a tone and an image in the readers head.

Permaculture was started in the 1970’s by Bill Mollison. Mollison spent years in the wilderness and realized the destructive path us humans are on by destroying the environment. Instead of being angry, he decided to take a positive approach to this, and look around the negatives to reach the best results. He noticed that all things in nature have a use for each other and that all in all, nature is one big cycle. A never ending cycle, where everything reacts with each other.
After reading the Invisible Man we had to write an essay, and what was great about this is that we had to brainstorm our own thesis (something that I have never done before, usually the teacher provides the student with the thesis) but everyone had a different view on the book. This was a great way of challenging the class as seniors. With writing our own thesis we had to argue and support one’s thinking so it would make sense to the

Reading American Scholar and Civil Disobedience, stuck out to me the most. By going in depth with reading American Scholar and Civil disobedience I slowly developed my skill in reading older pieces of text, and truly understanding what they mean. Initially reading them was really rough as I was limited in my understanding of the purpose of the text, and the rhetorical devices that were embedded within them. As I learned that teamwork was quite important in situations like this, as my table mates and I had to exchange ideas and different standpoints with each other to decipher the text and learn the author 's true message. Before I was stubborn to use my table mates for help because I considered myself a fairly independent person, however I
The knowledge that I gained in those course I used in order to teach others at my parents church. I thought passages of the Bible in a philosophical manner to my students for over two years. I had a small class of 10 students. It made me really proud that one of the young boys there once told me, “I want to become a philosopher.”
This week I learned how to identify rival causes and omitted information. Reading the research study on bullied children was informative. It was a great way in trying to find the rival causes. The six thinking hats was also a great exercise; it helped me understand the different forms of thinking. Watching the 30 minute clip from I.O.U.S.A. movie was also very informative
The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
