There is only one Olympian God that can travel to and from the underworld without consequence. This is Hermes. Hermes has done many great things, has abilities to do things nobody else can do, and has qualities to make him a great Greek God. Here are just some of the great things about Hermes and what makes him who he is. Hermes has done many great things since birth. He was born from Maia as the son of Zeus, the leader of all the Greek Gods and one of the big three. “After Hermes was delivered he took a turtle shell, carved holes into it, and added strings on to make it into the famous lyre.”(Guerber 112) This lyre has gone onto be very commonly associated to Hermes. He is best physically described as “Clothed in a knee-length robe with a short cloak, winged boots, and a brimmed traveller's hat. (Olympic) Hermes has also been very helpful in many situations. This can be seen in the slaying of Medusa, and slaying a giant from the command of Zeus. He can also be very cunning. As a child after the incident with Apollo and the cattle his father was so impressed that he was granted a place among the twelve Olympians.
