Cognitive Therapy works to correct false, self defeating ways of thinking. This therapy would help Claire to build new models of thinking and
Therapist discussed further using coping skills with client. Therapists introduced new coping skills with client. Therapist encouraged the client to verbalize his emotions in regards to his daily mood and how it changes from time to time and using it as coping
In 2016 the two candidates, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, saw themselves being able to bridge the divide between red and blue. Clinton ran as a Democrat, but her past shows that she used to be a strong republican. As for Trump, he ran as a Republican, but he preaches about not choosing a side, rather just choosing what is best for America. In comparison to the 2008 election, the divide between parties hardly moved.
Secondly, therapists have to engage in reflective practice before labelling clients as “non-compliant” because clients who are deemed “unmotivated” may be dealing with difficulties like illness and loss. Thus, therapists ought to constantly remain attentive and prudent to explore the factors that are hindering clinical progress. Thirdly, therapists are not suggested to give clients advice regarding their progress in an intervention. Instead, they should encourage clients to take control of the process and respect clients’
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to teach people to recognize and change their negative and irrational thoughts and beliefs (Corey, 2017). CBT methods focus on changing perceptions, beliefs, and thought processes to create positive behavioral changes (Corey, 2017). More specifically, REBT believes that the three most irrational beliefs a person has are demands of personal success, favorable life circumstances or experiences, and acceptance from others (Corey, 2017). Since Peyton believes that her mother’s death was her fault and continues to believe that people will always leave her, I think a change in these negative thought processes would greatly change Peyton’s outlook for the

Herman’s Intervention Model of Recovery Therapeutic healing according to Herman, 1997, is the most important thing a therapist brings into the relationship with a client like Kathy, who has experienced any form of psychological trauma, is the formation of a healing relationship. The client’s traumatic event has left him/her experiencing a disconnection from self, others, and feelings of disempowerment. Therefore, the primary principle for the therapist is to act as a guide or an ally in reestablishing empowerment in the client toward their recovery. Throughout the healing relationship the client develops autonomy/self-determination, a rebirth of power and control, and a new sense of self (Herman, 1997).
Cognitive theory focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Social workers assist clients in identifying patterns of irrational and self-destructive thoughts and behaviors that influence emotions. Cognitive theory allows social workers to assess the client’s schemata, identify any dysfunctional thought patterns, and consider the evidence supporting a client’s belief in order to clients to adjust their process to better facilitate the attainment of goals and experience more positive emotions (Hutchison, 2013. P. 119). On the other hand, cognitive therapy cannot encourage clients to rationalize their problems with negative thoughts and irrational thinking due to oppressive external circumstances.
As an American citizen, we have a lot of expect from both presidential nominees: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. They have presented us with their views on various issues and persuading all the voters to become the next President of the United State of America. Both rivals have different visions in their political agenda. Every voter has their own choice and they can choose a candidate based on their views. Presidential candidates Trump and Clinton have different views in many sectors and I have discussed some important ones: foreign policy, immigration, and education.
It involves how illogical and negative thoughts affect someone’s mood and therefore their behaviour. For example if they have negative thoughts this would leave those in a bad mood and then this would lead to aggressive or snappy behaviour. In addition someone who suffers from depression will experience low mood and feelings of worthlessness. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to use the negative thoughts and change them into positive thoughts and have a better outlook on the world. Another aspect of the cognitive approach will also include the treatment of individuals
It is believed the most influential model in treatment methods of depression has been Aaron Beck’s cognitive theory of depression (Beck 1976). Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is the most widely practised branch of psychotherapy. It was developed in the seventies by Professor Aaron T Beck. He concluded that in his treatment of depression, a combination of cognitive and behaviour therapies were more effective than psychoanalysis. By using clinical observation of depressed patients Beck was able to come to the conclusion that patients had a negative cognitive triad where they had a negative view of themselves, the world and their future.
A brief comparison between narrative therapy and family therapy will also be given. Overview of the two theories Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is best known for being used by Michael White and David Epston. Narrative therapy commonly involves a shift in focus from more theories that can be seen as traditional. A collaborative approach is often encouraged and the therapist is also encouraged to show special interest and listen respectfully to the client’s stories. The therapist should also avoid diagnosing and labelling clients but rather enable the client to often separate themselves from the most dominant story of their life to provide a space where alternative life stories can be created (Corey, 2014).
Therapists must access their own internal process such as their feelings, attitudes and moods. Therapists’, who are not receptive to the awareness of their flow of thoughts and feelings, will not be able to help clients be aware of theirs (Kahn, 1997, p. 40). Though congruence does not mean that therapists have to share personal issues with clients, a therapist must not conceal their inner process from the client, and not be defensive but transparent (Kahn, 1997, p. 41). By being open sometimes a therapist learns more not only about their client but about themselves
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
Psychotherapy is as effective as medication in treating depression and is more effective than medication in preventing relapse (DeRubeis, Siegle, & Hollon, 2008). Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) pertains to a class of interventions whose premise is that mental disorders and psychological distress are maintained by cognitive factors. Beck (1970) and Ellis (1962), were the pioneers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach of the core premise of holds that maladaptive cognitions contribute to the maintenance of emotional distress and behavioral problems. A review of meta-analytic studies by Hofmann, Asnaani, Vonk, Sawyer, and Fang (2012) examined the efficacy of CBT and it demonstrated that this treatment has been used for a wide range of psychological problems such as cannabis and nicotine dependence, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, bulimia, insomnia, personality disorders, stress management and more studies being conducted to study its effectiveness. There is a well-established literature regarding effective cognitive behavioral therapy in treating mental health problems, specifically those utilizing face-to-face counseling.
