Hinduism Vs Buddhism Essay

I had heard of both Hinduism and Buddhism, but I knew very little about either of them. What I knew of them consisted of their beliefs in reincarnation, karma, and that they used chanting during meditation but little else.
In Hinduism like Christianity, they believe in one God, but their God is not quite the same as our one God. Hindus believe that God is the cosmos, God is all that exists, and nothing exists that is not God (Sire, 2009, pg. 149). Per Sire, that instead of drawing a bold line between God and his creation, however, Hindu text declares them to be one and the same (Sire, 2009, pg. 149). Now this goes against what I believe as a Christian. There is no way that I am God. I will never be perfect enough to be God in any sense. The main difference is they don’t believe in any God. Additionally, where Hindu’s believe that you need to mediate to achieve oneness with the One, but Buddhas believe in what they call the Void. According to Sire, the Void is not a thing at all moreover it is the origin of everything (Sire, 2009, pg. 161). This was quite confusing to me. Why would you believe that a void can create anything? I prefer to believe that God was the creator of all. That makes more sense to me. Another thing we were introduced to in this week’s readings was new age spirituality which is not really a religion it is more a way of life. Proponents of this lifestyle believe in things like faith healers, mediums, and some believed that humanity was or is on the verge of an evolution into a higher consciousness. The scary part about of these believers was that some of them used mind-altering drugs like LSD. Most of their beliefs are far-fetched.
