After the order from Harry Truman to drop the two fatal atomic bombs on Japan, no one could’ve seen the disastrous outcome that caused Japan to surrender. This tragic event sprung a huge argument between America and Japan, possibly even the whole world, if dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. The United States should have not dropped the atomic bombs on Japan.
The aftermath of the droppings resulted in countless deaths. The first atomic bomb, that was dropped on Hiroshima, killed an estimated amount of about 140,000 civilians. Those who actually survived were left crawling on the floor suffering severe burns from the flames and were unable to get immediate medical attention. From being exposed to the radiation rays due to the atomic bombs, large amounts of the civilians started getting symptoms leading up to several diseases. Some symptoms include losing their hair, vomiting, diarrhea, major bleeding, and the list keeps going on. There were also many long term effects for the people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A handful of kids were left with parents lying helplessly on the dirt floor so many had to continue on with life parentless. Quoted from a thirteen year old boy survivor, he mentions “when [he] became conscious, [he] found [himself] crushed by lots of plaster and timbers. [He] managed to crawl out but [his] mother’s legs were caught by a big pillar. [He] tried to pull out the broken pillar but it was no use. [He] asked passers-by to help [them], but they couldn't because they were all injured and thoroughly occupied in trying to save themselves. When the fire came close to [him and his mom], [his] mother said for him to run away and escape”. The last words his mother ever heard him say were, 'I'm sorry mum'.
