The Cold war lasted about 45 years, from 1900-1945. The main reason it ended at that time was because another war decided to poke its head out, WWII! The cold war itself was an era of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union and its satellite states and the United States, its NATO allies and a couple others. NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Cold War itself however, was a time where tensions were high between the Soviet Union and the U.S. It is called the “Cold War” because no direct military actions were taken against each other.
