With the horrendous events that occurred on September 11,2001, placed questions and watchful eyes on the government's ability to keep the borders and citizens safe. After a great deal of detailed research, the commissions recommended the formation of the Department of Homeland Security. The Department of Homeland Security has recommended and made many changes to eliminate the risk of another terrorist attack to the citizens and on the land of the United States. There are still gaps and weak areas that have to be addressed, but the line of communication between Federal, State, and local authorities have been established as an effort to combat terrorism.
