(1) In 1893 Charles and his brother frank Duryea presented to the worlds first gasoline powered Car. They tested it in the streets of spring field, Massachusetts September 20th 1893. Charles Duryea founded the Duryea motor company in 1896, the first company to manufacture and sell these gasoline powered cars. By 1896 the Duryea companysold thirteen cars of the model Duryea, an expensive limousine, which remained in production into the 1920s.8:55 in the morning, November 28, 1895, six of the Duryea brothers motor cars left Chicago's Jackson Park for a 54 mile race to Evanston, Illinois and back through the snow. The Number 5 motor car, piloted by inventor J. Frank Duryea, won the race in just over 10 hours at the speed of 7.3 miles per hour.The winner won $2,000, the enthusiast who named the horseless vehicles "motorcycles" won $500.
