The religious traditions of Islam and Christianity provide multiple teachings that motivate its adherents to seek peace both within the world and themselves. The following will analyse the extent to which the principal teachings of submission and justice in Islam as well as the Kingdom of God and salvation in Christianity can motivate adherents to work for peace.

Islam advocates the teachings of submission and justice, drawing on the concept of Suratil Mustaqueem - the Straight Path - and Al-Mizan - the Balance - to motivate adherents to find peace. The Christian concept of the Kingdom of God is the central premise and image at the core of all of Jesus’ teachings that addresses an ever-present calling and an eschatological hope. This is a challenge to believers to identify that the "Kingdom of God is within" (Luke 17:21) themselves in order to work for peace and justice in their world. The Bible teaches adherents to “make every effort to live in peace with everyone” (Hebrews 12:14) regardless of social and cultural differences. An example would be when a group of European Orthodox bishops from the Council of the European Bishops Conferences, travelled to the Holy Land from September 11-16 to show closeness to adherents in the Middle East and aim to call for peace based on the teaching of the Kingdom of God being within all adherents.
