Of the many great presidents, Thomas Jefferson was the strongest. Not only was he a great president, but he also was able to be so involved with teh New American Union even after his time in office. He was on eof the first philosophical thinkers that helped for the foundations of the country, he launched the library of congress, and was the one to provide the inspiration and the funding for the Lewis and Clark Expedition, all of which are important factors to every day life even today. Both Linocln and Washington were among the great presidents as well. Lincoln for example "made a stand against the popular opinion of the time, a decision that would divide the nation" (Emily Stone) about slavery that did significantly impact America.

One that came to my mind was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I believe he made one of the biggest impacts on this country as a president. As we entered the 21st century, the presidency became very different from the one created in 1878. The constitution limited the presidency so it wouldn’t become a monarchy. However, the limitations subsided because of the attitudes of the founding fathers, and the next two presidents. Washington, Adams and Jefferson shaped the presidency into more of a positively influenced position in the 1800s. But, from that time until about the 1930s, Congress was the most dominant office in the executive branch.
Abraham Lincoln's Assassination and the Effects on America Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” This quote said by Lincoln describes his preparation towards many of his tasks as the president of the United States; however, nothing could prepare Lincoln for what happened on April 14, 1865. Lincoln’s assassination took place days after Robert E. Lee and the Confederate army surrendered to the Union at Appomattox Court House. The assassination was carried out by a man named John Wilkes Booth.
April 14, 1865 would go down in history as the day when the sixteenth President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated; marking history as the first time this happened to a president. It happened five days after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant thus ending the Civil War and causing displeasure among those in the South who did not agree with the outcome. Among them was the young John Wilkes Booth who had access to the theatre due to his family’s influence because of their skills as actors (Clarke). Booth would later be known in history as the man who would change history using a weapon commonly referred to as a pocket cannon (Slomski). John Wilkes Booth used the pocket canon after making sure no one was able to enter the room with a wooden block that he placed in the way of the door (Nicolay 299).
Although, Abraham Lincoln was known to be 16th president of the United States he had an important significance in history by all his actions and Lincoln still matters today. Abraham Lincoln had many nicknames such as the “Honest Abe,” and “The Great Emancipator.” He was the president during the Civil War and the one that signed the Emancipation of Proclamation that freed slaves. Today, he is still relevant because he has his face in the five dollar bill and has his own momentum in Washington D.C.
The best U.S President was Abraham Lincoln. This is because Lincoln set a great example when it came to leadership and integrity. Some other factors would be, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. And lastly, signing multiple laws that created the first Transcontinental Railroad. Abraham Lincoln is known for his leadership, and skills as president along with his graceful personality.

The Great Emancipator, the Ancient One, the man who changed America for the better, was Abraham Lincoln. According to Suzanne Ozment of the American Library Association, America provides opportunities for all individuals to pursue their dreams and desires and offers opportunities for the neglected and poor to become wealthy and cherished (Ozment). It is surprising to think that just one hundred years ago, many individuals were severely suppressed and marginalized by others, based on the color of their skin, and a mere fifty years before that, African Americans and other immigrants were deprived of their rights and subjected to enslavement. How does a country go from a place of social hierarchy and racism to one where all people have chances to succeed?
I believe that Abraham Lincoln should be ranked first among the other leaders of the US. He has born from a humble family and worked his way to become the 16th President in 1860. He faced some obstacles when he was the president, however, due to his prowess in leadership he was able to overcome them by undertaking some changes that existed in the society and made the United States a better compared to other places. (Knudson, Jerry 103) Among his great developments as the president was the establishment of the US Department of Agriculture and others that included Homestead Act and Thanksgiving, he also brought great developments in higher education and led to resolving of the Civil War.
