At the end of World War II, America made history by becoming the first country to use an atom bomb. A scene of dust in the air, debris of buildings all around, people crying, dead bodies lying on the ground...This is what it was like after the bombing of 1945 in japan at the end of World War II. After the atom bomb, fears and social political problems occurred influencing the Cold War.
On July 16th 1945, the first atom bomb was being tested in New Mexico dessert. The test was successful and now, this meant that America had a atomic weapon for use of warfare. With the atom bomb, America hoped to end the war. On August 6th, 1945, America became the first and remained the only country who has used atomic weapons in warfare by bombing the japan city of hiroshima with their “Little boy” bomb. 70,000 people were injured, in addition, 70-80,000 were killed instantly. Tokyo radio had proclaimed that the use of the atom bomb was against “international Law” and a broadcast to America asked "How will the United States war leaders justify their degradation, not only in the eyes of the other peoples but also in the eyes of the American people?” America was not only one making atomic weapons though. The soviets also had a nuclear program of their own three years before the bombing of Hiroshima. In August 1949, the Russians detonated their first prototype nuclear weapon. Code-named ‘First Lightning.’ During the war, The soviets and Americans fought as allies together, however relations between them fell apart at the end. Some historians would argue that the bombing of hiroshima was to show the soviets that America now had a powerful nuclear weapon.
