Will Rahn Mr.Haltom U.S History 5/3/24 The ruinous sentry of the Atomic Bomb August 6, 1945, prolonged tensions of WW2 between America and Japan, caused the United States Of America to employ the first use of nuclear weapons in warfare ever conceived. The atomic bomb dubbed “Little Boy” was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, a major port and military headquarters. The bombing was inflicted to avoid a prolonged conflict with Japan by forcing them to surrender to avoid casualties from both sides. The justification of Hiroshima is a complex and contentious argument debated still to the present day by historians and ethicists. While the ethical implications of targeting civilians can raise questions about morality, the bombing of Hiroshima was an essential step in WW2 and through a ripple effect caused more peace throughout the nation than any treaty ever proposed. …show more content…

The atomic bomb aimed to force the surrender of Japan, preventing loss from battle on both sides of the war. Before the bomb, Japanese forces showed no signs of letting up despite Allied forces having an upper hand. This made it necessary to force surrender by making it clear to Japan resistance would result in a new devastating power. To manifest this the alternative was a full-scale invasion of Japan, with the only course of action starving Japan making a prolonged deadly battle a possibility of a swift end to the war. The bombing of Hiroshima also sent a clear message to the world about the destructive power of nuclear weapons. In conclusion, the bombing of Hiroshima was a justified action taken by the United States of America.
