Is Using the Atomic Bomb Ethical? In August of 1945, two nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan, consequently, killing tens of thousands of civilians and turning them to ash or killing them from radiation and burns. The Atomic bomb kills masses of people at one time, but can also save people’s lives from war; but the atomic bomb can kill many innocent lives without warning. This is a huge conflict in war, whether or not the nuclear bomb should be illegal in war. Do you believe that this act was ethical? The atomic bomb was used in a crude fashion where innocent people were turned to ash as a desperate last attack. The bombs caused more than two hundred thousand civilians to die instantly and perhaps millions over time due to radiation exposure and cancer. Consequently, this drove us into arguments with other nations such as the USSR. The radiation from the bomb is just as deadly as the explosion itself. Radiation is high energy neutrons and gamma rays which come immediately after a detonation of a nuclear device. The beginning stage of radiation, which is short lived, but extremely deadly, where many are killed in a cruel fashion. It is estimated that over twenty percent of all deaths for Nagasaki and Hiroshima were from prompt radiation or the beginning stages of radiation. The second stage is referred to as residual radiation where the high energy neutrons slam into the nucleus of the cell and damage the nucleus, fortunately this is not deadly. Lastly Fallout occurs radioactive particles are dispersed over a large area. All this radiation cause radiation poisoning, cancer, and death
